Harvest 07-19-10

Better late than never.  I have been running around like a chicken with my head cut off a job really gets in the way of my gardening.  I didn't get pictures of everything I harvested this week but here are a couple.

Banana peppers, tomatoes, basil, squash

squash blossoms from my old timey cornfield

If you want to see what everybody is harvesting get on over to Daphne's Dandelions and get ready to drool.

  1. Were those squash blossoms really good? I've heard of people eating them, but never tried it myself. BTW, i've worked all over Oklahoma in years past, and even found my wife there while working for several months in Altus....

  2. I like squash blossoms I stuff them with different cheeses and fry them I think people put them in salads also but I haven't tried them like that. I am going to try to slow down on the fried foods but man it is hard. That is cool you married an okie I bet there is some good cookin going on at your place. I'm about 5 hours from Altus.

  3. Beautiful harvest, lots of tomatoes, yum~~
My tomatoes are trickling in one at a time not enough to cook with, sometimes they don't make it into the kitchen at all.

  4. wow, are those all tomatoes? That's a lot of tomatoes you got there! I also harvested a couple of squash blossoms a few weeks ago, after reading about fried squash blossoms. My batter didn't turn out so well, I thought it was too heavy (I hardly ever fry, so my technique was way off), but I can imagine that it would be tasty stuffed with cheeses and fried properly.

  5. I was just pondering a squash blossom harvest, but like you, I love them fried and I'm trying to cut back on fried foods. I haven't tried them in a salad yet, but it's on my list!
    Love your harvest.

  6. Thyme2garden, I like them fried I just stuff them with cream cheese and what ever other kind of cheese I have on hand and dip them in egg and then some flour I tried to mix some batter up and it didn't turn out to well either.

  7. Mac, My tomatoes just started really getting with it in the last week my cherry tomatoes don't make it in the kitchen to much either.

Nartaya, I just started getting some male flowers so this was probably my last harvest of blossoms until my fall squash plants start flowering. I just started frying them last season and got hooked.

  8. I may need to try frying the male blossoms from my zucchini plants because I don't think I will EVER get a female blossoms. It may be the only chance that I will get to eat something for my effort with these plants. (sigh)

    All the tomatoes look good!

Late in visiting the posts for Harvest Monday!

  9. That is what I have been thinking about my winter squash. I am getting tons of male blossoms but no female blossoms.
